Napa County is world famous for its exquisite wine varieties. In the 1960’s, Napa’s wine industry rose to the first rank of wine regions along with Italy and France. The racial makeup of the county was 79.98% White, 1.32% Black or African American, 0.84% Native American, 2.97% Asian, 0.23% Pacific Islander, 10.95% from other races, and 3.71% from two or more races. 23.67% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. In the 45,402 households, 31.40 % had children under 18 living at home, 53.20% were married and living in the same home, 9.90% had no husband present, 11.60% had a person over the age of 65 living in the home. On average, in 2000 the size of the households in Napa Valley was 2.62 and the family size was 3.16. If you look at the age of individuals in Napa Valley in 2000 you will be amazed that 24.10% were under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 years of age to 24 years of age, 27.70% from 25 years of age to 44 years of age, 24.30% from 45 years of age to 64 years of age, and 15.40% were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 38 years old. There were 100 females to every 99.60 males and for every 100 females over the age of 18 there were 97.40 males. Income in Napa Valley in 2000 was on average $51,738 and the average for a family was $61,410. Males were bringing in an average income of $42,137 while females were making $31,781. The per capita income for the county was $26,395. The population that was below the poverty line in 2000 was 5.60 % families and 8.30% of the entire population.
